J.R. United's History
In 1959 Fidel Castro overthrew Fulgencio Baptista, many Cubans fled to the United stated. Julio Grosfeld a 20 years old Cuban Jew came to the Unites Stated and drove a cab to make money in order to bring his wife Raquel and son Salo to join him. Within 6 months Julio Was finally able to afford passage for his family to the U.S.
In 1967 Julio was working as a traveling salesman selling bedspreads out of the trunk of his car. One day while on a sales call he realized this was the opportunity he had been waiting for. He could go to the manufacturers directly and sell for himself, and with that very thought JR united Industries was born.
Created the first sheet set. Prior to this all sheets were sold in open stock.
We began importing products.
Became first company to market Jacquard towel ensembles in the U.S.A., and started a Men’s division by producing jacquard robes.
We began producing sleepwear and loungewear.
Introduced robes to home departments of Bed, Bath and Beyond, Linens n Things and Federated Department Stores.
Started a long-term successful relationship with Kmart’s Martha Stewart everyday, began producing all beach towels and solid color towels in Martha by Mail.
1998Recognized as a credible basic solid color bath towel resource by shipping Kmart $18,000,000 worth of Colossus solid color towels.
Began making kitchen towels & flannel sheets for Martha Stewart.
Produced first solid color replenishment imported towel program at Linens n Things.
Created Partnership with Alonzo and Tracy Morning on Honey Child Brand.
Awarded JC Penney minority vendor of the year.
Created the 5 Star Pima towel program with Kmart and Martha Stewart.
Shipped first major woven sheet and comforter program.
Developed first Hispanic home brand - Pasión.
Signed the IZOD master home license, includes all bed and bath products.
Awarded Joe Boxer license for loungewear and robes
Salo P Grosfeld and J.R. United mentioned by President Bush, Laura Bush and Ileana Ros-Lehtinen in congress for generosity to the children of Afghanistan
2003Purchase Davidson Cotton / Abouchar company, a $20 million dollar embellished and embroidery manufacturer in Mexico and moved factory to Miami, Florida, USA.
Salo P Grosfeld named Top Hispanic Entrepreneur.
Purchase Sure Fit, a $225 million dollar slipcover company.
Signed Casa Cristina Bed and Bath home license.
Signed Grupo Televisa Master Home License, including Vanidades, Tv y Novelas and Casa de los Famosos brands.
Signed Baby Abuelita’s Home License.
Signed Caribbean Joe Bath and Beach License.
Awarded Solid color towel business at Costco.
Signed Havanera and Cubavera with Perry Ellis Group.
Re-entered Men’s apparel in active sportswear, basic sleepwear, loungewear, robes and underwear.
Get Lucky enters our stable of Brands.
Created new Venture with Domenica Brazzi for Hispanic home products.
